London is a city. It's a city full of people from every where (in fact most aren't from London, England or Great Britain at all), restaurants, pubs, theatres, tube stations and porn.
It's awesome!!!!!!!
Our first week in London gave us a very accurate understanding of the city and its workings.
Here are the highlights:
* we stayed at the world's worst hostel. It was still in construction, so all of the wonderful things it claimed to have didn't actually exist yet. And whose bright idea was it to have 1 computer for 300 people?
* finding a nice flat, less than a mile from a tube station that doesn't look like it will give you hepatitis and charge you a million dollars for it is almost impossible. Lucky for us we found a decent room in a decent house share (only 5 other people) on a decent tube line. The price isn't so decent but that's London (I just bought 2 small tubes of lip balm for $6...WHAT??!?!?!)
* We had an amazing dinner with Kelly Baker and Ryan. Great hosts! They live only 4 short tube stops from us, so hopefully we'll see a lot of them.
* We watched my favourite Shakespearean play (A Midsummer Night's Dream) as groundlings (meaning we stood in front of the stage for 3 hours) at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. It was amazing! My favourite theatrical moment ever!!
* We celebrated our 4 month wedding anniversary (yay us!) with a visit to the Tower of London. We took a tour with a Beefeater and pretended to have assisted in protecting the mideval castle. We then walked through the city and finished the day by watching Avenue Q, a play that uses Seasame Street type puppets. Funny, Raunchy...FUN!!
Things we've learned this week:
* we learned that just because it's sunny in the morning doesn't mean that it won't rain...or that it won't be sunny again after it does. But it will rain. Not for long, often just a sprinkle, but rain nonetheless.
* NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING can happen in life until you have a permanent address. Cell phone plans and even a gym membership needs to be pre authorized on your UK debit card. Wow!!
* The tube is crazy and unpredicatable, but it will get you anywhere (time and amount of money paid are never guaranteed).
* People are super friendly.
* Fish and chips really are great!
* There is always something new to learn and discover in London!

Sounds awesome. At least you have familiar faces nearby for comfort! I hope you're enjoying you time away from Canada....and I hope you can actually save some of your earnings...hahaha! Well have a good time teaching and hopefully we will get to speak soon...!

Well you did it. You got in the first day. Six year olds; Hmm. That should be fun, remember at 6 they are still sponges for knowledge. Love you both and glad to hear all is reasonably well.
